My Journey in the Toastmasters

I joined the Kota Kinabalu Toastmasters in 2001. I joined the club to fulfill my love for lifelong learning. My mentor was the most positive person I came to know, Distinguished Toastmasters Richard Albert Gontusan.

I set my plan upon joining the Kota Kinabalu Toastmasters:

To attend every training meeting, to take up roles and to deliver a manual speech at every meeting. I believe this plan maximized my learning habits in the Toastmasters, I became a transformed person.

I developed these three critical abilities in the Toastmasters:

• The ability ti lead effectively in the Toastmasters, we say: Leaders are servants of his friends. I learn to lead by serving my members, my clubs and my community.

• The ability to communicate with power. Remember, the quality of our lives is determined by the quality of our communication. 

• The ability to foster an unshakable character. In the Toastmasters I learn how to turn criticisms into lessons. I practice the four values of the Toastmasters. They are; integrity, dedication to excellence, service to members and respect for the individuals. After years of participating these values in my life, I have become more credible in the eyes of my family, friends and the community. Credibility is trust and trust is everything in all happy relationships. 

Today I am a member of two clubs; The Sandakan Pidato Toastmasters and the Sandakan Toastmasters. The best thing for me isn the Sandakan Pidato was to successfully invite my wife, Datin Nurifrideri ACS, to join the Pidato Toastmasters in 2006. Today she is the greatest inspiration to members of the Sandakan Pidato Toastmasters.

Fellow Toastmasters and friends, let us continue with our journey of self development in the Toastmasters. Remember, success belongs to those who practice the habit of lifelong learning. As foe myself, I have decided to become a lifelong member of the Toastmasters.
